Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5622Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs

If you sign in with the apple id that has the purchased content on you're 5s, you will be able to redownload you're content

May i ask though, if you already had an apple id, then why did you crete a new apple id?

Setup asks you whether you want to create an Apple Id if you don't have one, or use an exisitng one if you do.

There is no reason to have to create a new one at all.

Just use the old AppleID and transfer data from old iPhone to new iPhone.

Different AppleID will not affect the iPhone anmd is not needed when getting new iPhone or changing cell companies..

You will need to repurchase all the apps using your new AppleIDs.

or just use the old AppleID but you should have separate AppleIDs. You can still use each others apps so you'll only need to purchase once

you and your wife can use the same apple id for itunes and app store (sign in under settings>itunes and app store) however for icloud and messages (also under settings) you can use different apple id's - the apple id is simply your email address and it doesn't care which carrier or provider you are with. If you need to reset your password go to appleid.apple.com or call 800 aplcare and have them walk you through it.
