Can't reinstall Mavericks since there's no option for disk selection

Question

I&#x27;m trying to reinstall Mavericks through the Recovery Utilities. When asked to select a disk, I don&#x27;t get any option. It&#x27;s just blank. I tried doing the same through Internet Recovery. This started last night when I got the whole grey screen issue. I&#x27;ve already created a back up image using Disk Utility but I was hoping to be on the safer side of things and not do a clean reinstall and delete all my data. I don&#x27;t get any message or anything. If I plug in an external hard drive, it says I can install my OS on to it but I&#x27;m not getting my actual hard drive as an option. I&#x27;ve been looking for a possible solution for a couple of hours now and I couldn&#x27;t find anything. Please help if you can! I shall be eternally grateful.  Thank you,Rhea

Rhea,boot into Recovery mode and select Utilities from the menu bar, and then select Terminal. In the Terminal window, run the following commands, one per line, separating each line by pressing the Return key:diskutil listdiskutil cs listmountPlease include in your reply the full output from these commands.

Rhea,the “OS X Base System” partition on disk1s2 suggests that you’re already in the middle of some sort of OS X reïnstallation process. If you have a backup image already created, then it would probably be easier for you to do a clean reïnstallation of OS X and then restore from the backup image, to get out of this current limbo which you’re finding yourself in.
