Q: Microsoft Sculpt keyboard + OS X issues

Hi all, I'm using the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard with my 15" MacBook Pro Retina, and have a few weird problems:

  1. [Shift]+[v] does not work.  Typing [v] prints a lower case v, and [Shift] uppercases all other letters just fine, but [Shift]+[v] is unresponsive, nothing is output.
  2. Typing [r] with no modifiers refreshes web pages when it's not supposed to - any time the browser is in focus, and even when a <form input type=text...> is focused.  It does not refresh when a textarea is focused, though.

The keyboard is recognized by OS X as a standard 101 key ANSI keyboard.

Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), iTunes 11.1.5

I continued to have problems. After some digging around, I discovered the

    com.apple.keyboardtype.plist

    file in /Library/Preferences

I disconnected the dongle, deleted the file (see command below), and reconnected it. It worked immediately.

    $ sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboardtype.plist

    Hi Everyone,

I just purchased the Desktop package today. I was able to get the Sculpt keyboard working fine in Yosemite. If anyone is interested here is the procedure.

When you first hook up the keyboard it will bring up a dialog window stating it doesn't recognize the keyboard and will ask you to press keys to the right and left of the shift key in order to identify it. Do so, and then set the next choice for Ansi.

    a) Download the following from Microsoft's website Microsoft-Desktop_d305.dmg and install. Launch it and under options put a check mark next to Swap Windows and Alt Keys

    b) Download Karabiner-10.6.0.dmg and install. I just chose the below key assignments because they worked with no conflicts!

Note: Remove that semicolon at the end of the paste line above prior to pasting it.

Note:2  One issue is that the keyboard doesn't seem to respond fast enough from a cold start to do the key sequence for selecting the boot drive. Aside from that it works fine on my Late 2009 27" iMac.

    Hope this helps others!

Follow up. I just tested the cold start boot option (holding the option key down) and it is working fine, so there are no issues then.   BTW, I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3 here. Also that Microsoft Desktop Installer is v8.2, their latest.

So I just bought the Microsoft Sculpt desktop... and the numbers on the number pad do not work.   Everything else on the number pad seems to work... but not the actual numbers.   Any thoughts?

I have the same problem with the Sculpt Comfort keyboard. It has worked for a while but the number keys and the decimal key on the number pad would not respond. But the + - * /  and enter keys work.  In fact I think the num lock key doesn't work either.

Anyone has any ideas about how to fix this problem?

    Thanks in advance.

I rarely find my exact question already asked, and even more rarely, an answer that works. Thanks, Byron and glocopilot!

Installed the MS Intelli.. having a problem that within minutes the brightness on the screen goes down to zero (like someone's holding the lower brightness button down all the way).

My keyboard keys aren't stuck, I've double checked this. Any Idea?

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.

I just bought this keyboard and was wondering if there is any way to get the full set of function key functionality from it as from the Apple Keyboard. Is there any way I can remap F1 to lower brightness, F2 to increase it, F3 to Exposé and so on and so forth?

I can't believe it, but glucopilot's suggestion worked. I never use the F key in question, and it didn't look stuck, but pressing/wiggling the F5 and F6 key fixed my issue!
