Transferring Firefox bookmarks from a Macbook that won't boot.

My Macbook Pro will not fully boot at all. Will not boot to the desktop. I can, however, access the files through target disk mode via another computer.

I need to access the Firefox bookmarks so I can transfer them. I know the folder is hidden. But I am unable to un-hide the folder through target disk mode using this method.

How can I get the bookmarks off of the Macbook?

Thank you.

Capital78,

no command-line is necessary to use the Finder. If you’re not currently in the Finder, double-click the Finder icon in your dock (by default, the smiling two-toned blue icon on the far left). If no Finder window appears, press ⌘N to open one. In the menu bar you will see File, Edit, View, Go, Window, and Help. Select Go, and then select Go To Folder… in the Go dropdown. In the “Go to the folder:” window which appears, enter the full path of the hidden folder where your bookmarks are; the Finder window will then show the contents of that folder, and you can then copy the relevant files to wherever you’d like them to be.

If you wish to believe that no one else can think of things to try which you haven’t already thought of, that’s entirely up to you.

Capital78,

my guess is that if your MacBook Pro is in Target Disk mode, that it would be accessible from the other Mac through the /Volumes folder hierarchy. (You’ll have to look to see which names are present in the /Volumes folder; it would probably be something like /Volumes/mbp_name/Library/…, where mbp_name is the name of your MacBook Pro’s boot volume.) By putting in the local name of your MacBook Pro’s bookmark folder on the other Mac, you will only get that Mac’s own bookmark folder.
