Printer icon appearance on dock

I just converted from PC to iMac. Is there a way for me to have a printer icon show in my dock? Now when I want to scan a document I must open system preferences & click on scan. I'm looking for a shortcut.

Thanks.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

You don't need a printer icon on the Dock. To print the simple command from any app is Command P or if you want to use the mouse it's under the File menu just like a PC. However to scan, all Macs come with an app called Image Capture (look in the Applications folder) and you can simple drag that to the Dock and launch Image Capture that way. Another shortcut is to click Command Spacebar (this opens Spotlight) and type Image Capture or the name of any app or file you want to open.
