My iPad is frozen with the iTunes icon on the screen and the USB Cable with an arrow pointing to iTunes icon. How do I get the device unfrozen?

One of my users let his wife use his iPad 3 and now the device is forzen with the itunes icon appearing on the screen along with the USB charging/interface cable with an arrow pointing to the iTunes icon.

1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.

2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
