IPad 3 dead battery, will not charge

My iPad 3 will not charge. It ran out of battery earlier today, and I plugged it in to a wall charger. It charged fine, up to about 7%, when I decided to use it again. The game I was playing was obviously a bit power-hungry, as about 45 minutes later, the iPad powered itself off. I left it for a few hours, but when I cam back to it, it was displaying the Apple logo.

I pressed the home and power buttons together, and it flashed up with the home screen for a split second before turning off again. It now will display the dead battery symbol for a bit, then a blank screen as if it is charging. After a few minutes, the Apple logo is displayed, but then the iPad reboots itself. I have tried the home + Power combination plenty of times no, to no avail.

If I plug the iPad into my computer, I have similar symptoms. The computer and iTunes recognises the iPad only when the Apple logo is displayed, but that is not long enough to be able to do anything.

Does anyone have any helpful ideas? I would restore it, but I don't seem to be able to do that as the iPad does not stay powered long enough for me to be able to interact with it.

Thanks,

Jenks

Hi Jenkachu,

If you are having battery charging issues with your iPad, you may find the following article helpful:

If you are still having issues, especially if the iPad will not start up past the Apple screen even after being allowed to charge on the iPad wall charger for at least 20 minutes (the longer, the better), you may find this article useful as well:

SOLVED

It was a real pain in the behind, but I managed to solve the problem. Here's what I did:

I plugged the iPad into a wall charger, and waited for the Apple logo to show. I then pressed and held both the power and the Home buttons together, and kept them held. After a while, after showing the dead battery picture and the Apple ogo once more, the iPad went into recovery mode (ie it showed the display telling me to plug it into iTunes). It took me a couple of goes to get it right - if it doesn't work for you, just let go of everything, and wait until the next time the Apple logo shows, and try again. Once in recovery mode, I plugged it into my computer, and was able to start downloading the update (7.1 in this case). Before it had downloaded, my iPad lost power and turned off, but the download continued.

Once the download had finished, I repeated the above process to force the iPad into recovery mode. ITunes again recognised it, and installed the update quite happily. I was then able to recover my data, and I now have a fully functioning iPad once more.

Good luck with yours!!!
