Q: Mac won't start after updating CUPS

I updated CUPS by downloading and installing it normally, then couldn't open Google Chrome because it was the "wrong architecture". I then restarted my computer, where it is stuck on a white screen with the apple logo and a spinning wheel. I can boot into single-user mode and recovery mode, but not into Safe Mode or normally. I suspect a corrupted CUPS download. Anything would be helpful.
