new laptop won't sync with ipod nano gen 7

I bought a new laptop; windows 8 and installed itunes on it. Then shared the computer & then activated it. I cannot sync my laptop & ipod nano gen 7. I unistalled the program on my computer & reinstalled. Still won't. When I go to File; Devices everything is grayed out. When I try to look for updates it says my ipod has the latest version (1.0.3 pc)
