I've never had trouble with this machine before and just 2 weeks ago I upgraded to Mavericks OS. Now, my iMac (21"), 3.06GHz, 12 GB RAM, keeps shutting down. At first, I thought it was a fluke but now it happens every 15min or so. At first, I thought it was my peripherals (ext. HDs) but I disconnected those as well as anything else and it is still happening. I'm afraid to work on anything because I might lose it. I try saving a lot, but shutdowns happen without warning. When I reboot, a small dialogue box shows up for a split second, so fast, I can't even read it, then it is gone.
I goggled it and noticed that 1-2 years ago other people in the community were also having this problem but it looks no one ever got a definitive diagnosis and solution. Everyone did the usual...reseating the RAM, etc. but it didn't look like it resolved anything.
I don't know if this is related but mid March when I was uploading to the cloud (iDrive), I experienced 2 kernel panics, but they seemed to have gone away.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
It may well be Adobe. I've had my iMac on most of today, trying to get my files backed up before I clean install. So far, it has not crashed. In any case, I'm going to do some more experiments after this and use Adobe Lightroom and see if it acts up.
Will keep you posted. Happy Rabbit.
