Tried to restore phone for cloud, but cloud asks for passwd from a email acct I no longer have. Checking cloud setting makes no ref to old email. how to fix ?

I had iphone replaced, tried to restore from icloud backup, but cloud asked for password for old email acct I no longer have. Checked cloud settings. Acct is assoc with correct email, no reference to old email acct. As a result of this attempt I now have a new (latest) backup which is useless. How can I find an older backup on the cloud?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1

iCloud only keeps your last 3 backups. You won't know what backups are available until you try to restore and iCloud backup. When you do, you are prompted to choose your backup and all available backups are presented.

Did you try providing the password for the old ID? If you no longer remember it, you might try resetting it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624). If you can't because you no longer have access to the email account, contact the Apple account security team for assistance resetting it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.
