I have changed my internet settings so now my Apple TV doesn't work? The biggest problem is my remote control sideways buttons don't work so I can't enter the settings section of the Apple TV? Any suggestions?

Contact your provider, try another remote.
If you have a mobile Apple device you can download the free Remote app for it and use it in place of the silver one.
The remote app requires home sharing to be enabled on ATV and both to be on the same network. The OP is currently trying to configure the network, a physical remote will be needed for this.
