Mail app not working?

I have added an email account to the iphone4 which is verified and the mail icon shows i have email, however when i tap to open the mail app it takes me back to the add account screen...Also unable to reset/restart the phone as on/off switch not working... Ideas for the mail app.?

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with email on your iPhone. I have a couple of suggestions for the issues you described.


First, I suggest quitting the Mail application and relaunching it:

  1. Double-click the Home button.
  2. Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
  3. Swipe the app's preview up to close it.

If the issue persists, I recommend deleting your email account and readding it:

Delete the affected email account from your device.

  • Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  • Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
  • Add your account again.
