Hi Mate
You are posting this in a Server thread.
You shouldnt need an Apple ID to run the Lion installer app. You could make a Lion Installer boot disk, follow these instructions:
http://www.tuaw.com/2011/08/11/build-your-own-lion-install-usb-thumb-drive-for-c heap/
Hey Paul, I'm running 10.6.8 but want to ugrade to Lion 10.7. I have a disk with Lion on it but when inserted it's saying it's blank. Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Cheers, Mike
It sounds to me like you have a blank disk.
Lion was only available to buy on a USB Thumb Drive. You can still buy Lion from Apple, you just need to call them and purchase it over the phone, as per this http://www.tuaw.com/2013/01/24/mac-os-x-10-7-lion-is-still-available-for-purchas e-from-apple/
If you are looking for a way to "acquire" it, then the Apple Forums in not the place! Try Google.
My friend owns an electronic store where he works on a ton of miscallaneous devices. He had made me a disk last week with 10.7 on it. I put the disk in and it said I inserted a blank DVD. I told him what had happened ,so he made me another on a Mac because he thought he could of made it on another machine. He showed me Lion was on the second disk before taking it out and handing me the copy. I came home and the results were the same! Inserted a blank disk??? I was hoping you may have some insight on my misfortune. I'm not looking to "acquire" anything through these forums, perhaps a bit of knowledge on why the disk cannot be read.
I'm content with 10.6.8 but some DJ equipment I recently purchased requires 10.7. The MBP I'm using now is a bit dated (6years old 2.53 Intel core duo 8gb of ram) but contains all of my music, producing, and DJ programs on it. I'm unsure about putting Mavericks on it because of it's age.
As funny as it is, going to Lion via this way is illegal so I can't help you here. Going to Mavericks is legal so I can help you with that!
I'll be blunt Lion was a piece of unmentionables, Mavericks is a much better OS, in every shape and form. My wife has a MacBook Late '09 model and is fine with Mavericks, I have up'ed her RAM and added a Fusion Drive, and it does really well.
I really don't see you having any issues going to Mavericks, 10.6 is a really good OS, and in my opinion better than Lion... but Mavericks has been rock solid for me.
I guess your missing the problem?? I'm aware of how to put Mavericks on computer bud. The question was why wouldn't my drive read the disk ? Some of my programs and equipment are not with mavericks just yet. Thanks for the feedback. When you spend $6000 on production /studio gear and you need at least Lion to get them going its a bit of a headache! I would like to keep snow , it's tip!
Do other discs work? Does the disc work in other Machines? Is it a DVD-R or DVD-RW?
