Mini Display Port > HDMI (new) issue

I have the Mid-2010 13'' Macbook Pro.

I have been using a Moshi adaptor to a Phillips HDTV for over 3 years now.

Over the last few days the display would cut out and now it won't even detect. I've tried using other HDMI cords, they all fail on the Mac (yet work on my PS3, etc.). I've tried every which way on connecting order (tv > hdmi > adaptor > mac) and hasn't gotten better. When before, I never had to do anthing but simply plug adaptor into Mac.

Just a heads up, when I do plug into the Mac... the Mac screen does do the 'slight blink' but still shows no display detection within the Dispays Preferences.

TV is ip to date on software, Macbook is OS X 10.9.2.

What is going on? This is very frustrating, since this has always worked before.

Thanks

Hello Antsman41,

It sounds like you are unable to use your external display with your MacBook Pro anymore. I don't know if you have tried these steps, but I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help you resolve or isolate the issue:

Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573

  1. If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.

Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.

  2. If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).

Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:

  1. Start up in Safe Mode.
  2. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  3. Choose Displaysfrom the View menu to open the preferences pane.
  4. Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
  5. Restart your computer.
