Q: Airport Extreme not working for my MAC OS X

I have a macbook OS X and just bought an Airpot Extreme. It will not let me update the firmware. Obviously i can connect via ethernet but not wirelessly. Same with my iphone 5. where do i go to get the firmware?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
