Private VPN

Hi,

I using a private setup on my router Asus RT-AC68U

So I can control my home (domestic things and files) outside,

However I setup my Macbook Pro to connect to this VPN even when i'm using my home network (from the same router of the VPN server)

It's that safer for me when I go on the internet and stuff or it's just make no sense at all to do that.
