I'm trying to use my old slave mac on my wireless network. The airport card is in and working. But I am struggling to get it set up. Can anyone help please.

Change the AE setting to WPA security instead of WPA2.. the old card may not be up to the latest standard.

No luck test with wireless security off briefly and see if the computer can then work.

Not sure what you mean by

But the airport extreme doesn't seem to be able to see anything.

The extreme won't connect to a client.. or even "see" it until it is connect.. the client connects to the router not the other way around.

Test by changing the wireless name via the airport utility. Make it short and simple.

eg AE24ghz

Leave the wireless security off.

Test channels manually, 11, 6, 1 in that order.

If it still doesn't work then the old card is broken, or incompatible or the driver so out of date it won't work.

BTW my understanding is the new AC model will not work with B wireless clients.

The card must support at least G wireless to work.

Thanks for the help so far ;0)

OK I did the channel test, I get all blue bars showing full signal on all of them. Status says computer to computer. But I am seeing no solid bars in the in the airport icon in the menu bar just the little square icon.

I think I may as well just get a second router and go wired when I need to use thi old Mac. Worked before I upgraded to my new ISP.
