OpenGL upgrade?

I'm on a 13in MacBook Pro late 2011 with integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics card. My questions is how do I get OpenGL 3? glGetString(GL_VERSION) returns "2.1 INTEL-8.24.11". People say that these updates come with OS X updates, but obviously, I'm still on OpenGL 2.1. Is there a way to fix this? Or am I just stuck?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Jeremy,

since you have a 13-inch model MacBook Pro, you don’t have a discrete GPU around which Apple’s OpenGL support is focused. According to this Apple page, your integrated GPU supports a subset of OpenGL 3.3 features via ARB extensions; but as the GL_VERSION string showed, there’s only complete support for OpenGL 2.1 on your particular integrated GPU. Depending upon what you’d like to do, the supported ARB extensions on your MacBook Pro might be sufficient for your OpenGL 3 needs.
