gmail password wont work on iphone

I recently switched my password on gmail due to my email getting hacked. It prompted me to set up extra protection where they text me a code everytime I log in on a new computer/device. I also got a new iphone 5 and when I went to set up my gmail it now tells me my passord is wrong, but it isn't as I still use it to sign in on other computers. Please help.
