How do you redeem a online gift card via email

I sent a email gift card from my mac to a windows computer however the email just opens up and said to download itunes again but she already has itunes but there is no opiyon to log in, do we redownload or can we fix this problem? Thanks would be great for a quick reply as £10 is just floating in mid air.
