iphone won't connect to new asus T100 - both phone and laptop make regular beep

New Asus T100 hybrid laptop/tablet running Windows 8.1.

iPhone 4S, up to date.

Installed, uninstalled, reiinstalled iTunes.

Authorized the computer.

Restarted phone and computer.

When I plug in the phone, it doesn't appear in iTunes.

Both phone and computer make regular beep/chime alert-type sound (about one per second). This is the same whether or not iTunes is running.

Battery and %charge icons in upper right corner of phone flash in time with beeps.

No sidebar in iTunes where I would normally see the phone icon.

?????

FYI to anyone who's interested: it was the freakin' cable! Moral: always check hardware first! Case closed.

Just FYI.. I tried every single thing possible as my phone and computer continued to beep on and off with multiple cables.. the only cable that worked was my original apple chord.. I tried 3 other chords that I use to charge my phone on my other laptop and wall plugs that didn't work on my asus.. not sure why...

I have the same problem. Tried several cords and none of them work. Also tried plugging in an android with its specific cord and it worked. A USB drive works as well. I only have this problem with my iphone. Have you figured out the problem at all?
