xerox workcentre 7535 print driver no longer works with Mavericks 10.9.2

Unable to change any settings in Print dialog pane for Xerox WorkCentre 7535. Xerox says its an Apple software problem. They have issed three revised drivers since Apple released Mavericks OS-X 10.9.2. Not only does latest driver (4-11-14) not work, their universal driver for Mavericks no longer works. Anybody else trying to print on a Xerox device?

I have spent three days with Xerox Level Two support. My "log" is now escalated to their "Discovery" level. The issue appears to relate to the April 2, 2014, software up-date: Pages Version 5.2 (1860).

The document I am trying to print is two-pages, two-columns, ledger-size (11"x17"), landscape orientation, double-sided print on short-side. When printed correctly, the document is a single-sheet folder, a small booklet, with four letter-sze pages. Xerox specialist suspects the difficulty is related to settings designed to create booklets. I am using Xerox Print Driver 3.16.0

When I try to change the Xerox Features to "2-Sided Print, Flip on Short Edge" I get the first alert:

"Changing the setting of 2-Sided Printing to 2-Sided Print, Flip on Short Side would cause a conflict that cannot be resolved. No change will be made."

When I select Print, I get two additonal Alerts:

"Changing the setting os Separators Title to No Separators would cause a conflict that cannot be resolved. No change will be made."

"Changing the setting of Binding Edge to Automatic (Recommended) would cause a conflict that cannot be resolved. No change will be made."

I was hoping the message would show the second part of the conflict. Xerox should be able to provide more information since it is their PPD that is enforcing the constraints.

I have no idea what the No Separators message means, or why they would have a constraint on this.

Maybe you can walk them through the steps and they can explain what other setting is causing the duplex constraint message to show. Maybe they have a constraint with the page size? Because of how they duplex?

I think I solved this. Our Canada office has a WorkCentre 7556, and it was having the same problem(s).

Here's what I found and did:

Log into the printer's web interface. Go to the Properties tab. On that page, expand General Setup. Then click Configuration Report.

Find and click the link for Machine Hardware. In that box, find a line item for Finisher Type. Scribble down or remember your finisher type (ours was Xerox Professional Finisher).

On the Mac in question, go to System Preferences, Printers & Scanners. Find your Xerox printer, click Options & Supplies, and then the Options button. Now on our machine, from a default installation, the finisher was set to OCT (Offset Catch Tray) and was greyed out. Changing this to the correct finisher mentioned above made all of our errors go away.

Cheers, good luck, and um, I guess mark as Answered if this works for you please? 🙂

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Yes, that is prevcisely the "fix"

Exactly as you describe. The printer "thinks" that it is creating a booklet, when I set tabloid papersize, landscape/horizontal orientation, two columns, two-sided print flip on short-edge. When I updated the Xerox Driver, the Finisher re-set to OCT (Offset Catch Tray). All I had to do was manually change the Configuration on the Printer and select the Professional Finisher in the printer prefences.

I have been waiting to see if everything is back to normal before reported out this success.

After many hand-offs, service escalations, a Xerox specialist had duplicated the problem on their hardware and simply called me back with the solution.

Again, thank you so much!

Gratefully,

Gary
