Iphone battery/power/charging issue

Hello everyone or anyone who might help.

I've recently changed my Iphone 4S's display (the previous one was broken), I've assembled the phone to its original state and everything worked fine.

Since the phone has been broken for almost a year (I just got around to fixing it now) I forgot the passcode so it had to be restored.

I proceeded with restoring it and now the phone doesn't turn on (the empty batterry sign appears on the screen ) and when I plug it in it shows that it is charging but it's not. I've left it like this for almost 2 hours and then disconected it because it gets a bit hot and I was affraid that something might happen.

I would really apreciate if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this.

Thank you in advance.

well, i just had my phone apart yesterday for wifi reasons an managed to break the solder joints on the power connector on the motherboard. I had plugged the battery in several times that day and aparently the stress finally broke the solder and the entire connector came off. i was able to solder it back on with a soldering iron. it wasnt too difficult. perhaps this has happened to yours. maybe not completely off like mine but one of the connections or two could be loose and causing trouble.

also, do you remember what state of charge your battery was in when you left it for a year? 1/3 charge is the storage charge for these batteries. leaving it long term with a full charge can hurt it. leaving it with a low to no charge will likely kill it. Once a lipo battery get too low the charging circuit will not allow the battery to be charged and you will need a new one. Normaly the circuit will shut off the phone before the battery get too low and force you to charge it. I dont know how many cells are in this battery. perhaps only one, but the battery circuit will not charge the battery if a single cell get below 1.2 volts. I think its 1.2 if memory serves me right.

You can get a battery from Tmart.com for like $5. I've ordered many things from them and am very happy with their quick shipping on most of their stock. You could go ebay or ifixit.com.

I think this might be the problem.

The batterry was at aprox. 20% battery and probablly the restore process depleted it.

do you know if there is any device that can re-format the battery or something?

Batteries don't get formatted. They just get charged or depleted. If the battery is not charging then, either the battery is no longer working or you damaged some of the parts when you disassembled and reassembled it. You might try seeing if you can get another battery as suggested.

the batteries are too cheap to try to revive it. and too small. you wouldnt want to damage it and have it short out and catch your phone on fire. I have revived laptop batteries by finding the cell that fell below the threashold and charging that cell manually, but you need a power supply where you can control the amperage to charge one of these cells otherwise you could damage it and start a fire.

Well, before posting my question I've left my phone overnight with everything unplugged from the motherboard. When I got home I plugged everything back in and pressed the ON button, and surprise it booted and the battery was even charging.

The phone got hot at one point as the alert message appeared on screen (Iphone needs to cool down before you can use it). and then it got to 100% charge. I've managed to redo the restore.

And I've left it overnight unplugged and this morning it had 95% so it seems that the battery is holding well.

Not sure what happened in the first place.
