    Yes,

MailTab proved to be the problem. A techie from Apple tried a few things and quickly identifed Mail Tab Pro as the problem. I deleted it (never want to see it again) and bob's your uncle. I was unable to type the question on my iMac this morning because of that unwanted site going berserk, so had to resort to my iPad. For a few days now the MailTab Pro was asking to upgrade my Microsoft Explorer (don't have it obviously), OR Safari. That was odd because I have the latest Safari version.

    Thank everybody,

    Pat

For all who helped figure this out I really appreciate it. I found it to be true for now that it is the Outlook app. I have logged out and Quit the app and have not had it come back up. But I also want to thank thomas_r, bud you sure had some insightful ideas and thank you for the help and quick response.

Okay, I've been in contact with the company that makes MailTab Pro for Outlook, and assuming they're giving me the whole story, I understand a little better why I couldn't make this happen. They say:

Outlook.com changed their website code and it is triggering a rogue window to open in the user's browser.

We have patched the issue and awaiting Apple to approve the update.

So, it sounds like what's going on is that this app loads data from the Outlook.com website and displays parts of it within the app's interface. The parts of the site's code that the app is displaying must have changed, and now contain something that is causing ads to load in Safari every time the app refreshes its display.

For those of you affected, do you see some of these same ads displayed on the Outlook.com website if you log in there?

It doesnt actually show any ads (at least for me) when it pops up... its basicly just a white page, but the word ad in the url makes you assume that its supposed to show adds...

    Esben

That's the precisely problem I had untill an Apple Techie told me to switch off MailTabPro, which I did, and my problem resolved instantly. I even dumped the offensive MailTab program.

I think you should try it again within a month. I'm sure it's just a glitch in the code. Probably somehow meant for the MailTab's internal browser page but is showing in the default browser instead. (If the frequency of the pop-up is the same as the update interval, it'd support this theory.)

Did none of you tell the MailTab team to fix it? Wondering what's taking so long.

Looks like Mailtab just released an update to the App Store.  The update appears to have fixed the problem.

    Good luck!
