Hi,
I am using Final Cut Pro 7 and I was given DSLR footage that is Pro Res 422. When I scrub in either the Canvas Window or the Timeline, it's jumpy. It's not smooth at all. Can I fix this? If so, How?

Does it scrub ok in the viewer? Is this behavior different when working with other material?
Hi,
I meant to write Viewer and Timeline. Sorry. The scrubbing is smooth when I import tapes or when the video is Pro Res 422 (LT). It just seems to happen when it's Pro Res 422.

And where is this footage stored? On a drive connected how?

It is stored on an External G-Drive, 500 GB, attached by Firewire 400 directly into the back of my computer.

Download AJA System Test (free) from

And run a test with the size and bit depth of the material you are using with a 1gig file size.
Pro Res 422 Single media stream requires about 150 Mbits per seond, plus a little headroom.

The Drive has 140 GB available. It is a 500 GB Drive
The DRive is 7200 RPM.

WHOA! Those are VERY low drive speeds. You'd be lucky to get DV to play back properly. Firewire 400 is VERY old tech, not suitable for HD footage. ProRes requires at least 40-50MB/s for one stream...80-90MB/s for two streams.
You need a bigger boat...er...better hard drive.
Pro Res 422 Scrubbing is not smooth.
