Unsubscribed from iTunes Match, but my library is still in the iCloud and not on my PC, how do i retrieve it?

Do I need to resubscribe?

I know I should have thought to download it all before the subscription ran out, but surely Apple can't just force people to resubscribe to get all their music back?!

What do you mean by "unsubscribed?" Did you let the subscription lapse? If so, and you did not have all your music downloaded to your computer or backed up on another HDD then you lose accesss to the music in the cloud. There is no getting it back.
