No updates for Software

No updates for Software

Hello everyone,

we're using an OS X Server for deploying updates.

It seems that we are not able to see/deploy updates for the following software:

- Keynote Vers. 6.1

- Numbers Vers 3.1

- Pages 5.1

- iMovie 10.0.2

- iBooks Author 2.1.1

- iPhoto 9.5.1

We can only see very old updates for the mentioned software from 2013 or 2009.

The newest update in the list is "Chinese Word List" from 14/04/2014.

Is there any way to fix this issue?

Those are all paid apps, not free updates. Software update server won't include those. They must be updated via the App Store on each Mac.

If you have 10.9 server, there's a seperate "caching server" you can enable that will cache App Store updates similar to software update server.

Thanks for your reply.

So that means that we just have to enable the caching on our server,download the required App Store updates on one machine and after that all other machines also have the possibility do download those App store updates from my server. So I don't have to log in manually on each client machine into the App store and download them?Is that right?

We tried to enable caching but now we're receiving an error that this service can't be started because the configuration for Listenranges is invalid.

We added the listenranges in the config file but the config file is replaced every time.

Yes, when you enabled Caching Service and allocate space, server will download available updates. The server will then distribute to all machines on your network if you uncheck "Only Cache content for local networks" which is checked by default.

There's really nothing configurable about the caching server except the amount of space you want it to use.

There are technical limitations you should read up on if it is refusing to start. Main one is that it can't be on a public IP address.
