Q: Booting RHEL on a 2009 XServe PPC

So recently ive inherited a Xserve with 16 gigs of ram, It all works and boots to the OS. Sounds great but its the G5 PPC version. So im looking to install RHEL on it, following this guide I still cant get the DVD (internal and a external USB) or USB Flash drive to be picked up by the EFI.

- I do not have the install meda, but I guess I could find/torrent it if nessisary.

- The goal is to run a RHEL server with the Mac SAN next to it.

- I have tried to place the ISO on a HDD through linux "dd -if=/xxx/RHEL_6.5_PPC.iso -of=/dev/xxx" and then mounted the drive in a caddy and booted to no success. I know it was a long shot.

- I have swapped the CD-Rom drive with another drive.

- Im not trying to run DVDs in a CD-ROM drive. (anymore)

EFI is part of the Intel only range of Apple hardware and is not part of the G5 PPC range of Apple hardware.

Best I can make out the hardware you're trying to do this with does not support what you're trying to do. Ramifications? Take the easy option and purchase hardware that supports what you want to do. Alternatively stick with what you've got and try and make it work. You'll have the sure knowledge that there's probably only you trying to do something that's not supported with very little chance of help from anyone else.
