That means it was sent out to you with hidden addresses. They didn't want you to see them. The actual addresses should be in the BCC field.
Some email programs put that in the To field when it is left blank. Some people put that in their address book with their email address attatched to it or sometimes with an invalid address just so it will show that in the To field when BCC is used to let recipients know that it was a group message.
What you see probably has no address attatched to it.
Thank you. This was usefull, although it did not solve the problem.
Well I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do. Are you trying to reply to the message? Does "undisclosed recipient" contain a valid address with the name?
Thanks for coming back.
I am trying to solve the sender’s problem who wants the actual recipient’s name to appear in the “to” box of the e-mail received by the recipient.
The sender is my wife who is not trying to send the e-mail to a group of persons. When she send an e-mail to me alone or to any other individual alone, the recipient(me or the other individual)sees,on top of the e-mail,the name of the sender(my wife) and, underneath, the words “ TO: undisclosed recipients",nothing else.
My wife would like the recipient of her e-mail to see the actual recipient’s name, and not “undisclosed recipients”,in the “to" box of the received e-mail.
My wife uses a macbook with OSX 10.7.5 and I use a macbook pro with OSX 10.9.2.
Obviously, the problem is with my wife’s Apple mail application. How can I solve it?
Thanks for your attention.
Are you both using the same e-mail provider? Does your wife have another e-mail provider, such as an iCloud account, she can test in to see if the same thing happens? Trying to further isolate the problem to the application itself.
If she is only sending to one person in the To field, then the recipient should see their name in the To field. That may be a problem with the email provider. Or, maybe a setting that can be changed. That is not a function of the Mail application to add that in.
Who is her email provider?
Default behavior for my mail is when I leave the To field blank, it shows "undisclosed recipients" in the To field. Her mail settings could be corrupt and not recognizing the To field as a To field.
Try customizing the Header Field (as shown by Estace) when composing a new message to show all fields. Just changing the settings might possible straighten out the problem.
Have her try to send to a message to you with the address in the BCC field with an empty To field. You should get the same results as before. Then try again to send with the address in the To field and see if it fixes the problem.
