Aug 4, 2015 4:59 AM in response to DisneyWorldby peachybleach,★HelpfulI'm having this problem as well, the light comes on on my portable hard drive which indicates to me that it's connected or working, but it won't show up even when external hard drives are selected in finder, or in disk utility. It shows up in system report under USB I think, but I can't seem to do anything from there? It's brand new and supposed to be mac compatible.

Sep 23, 2015 4:37 PM in response to lllaassby Nightsky-ansquf,I have the same problem as well, it blinks but does not show up anywhere. I went to check in the System report and it was not there. I have tried using a different cable and connecting it to another computer but neither works. I have some really important things on the drive so I would like to know a way in which I could get it working while still keeping all my previous files.
My drive is a Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive and the model is SRD00F1.
If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated as I have been trying for a couple of days.
Here's a screenshot of what is shown in the System Report with my drive connected and blinking:

Sep 24, 2015 1:43 AM in response to najzulby lllaass,Does the external drive work when connected to another computer?
Does this computer see other external drives OK?
Maybe the drive died.

Sep 27, 2015 6:51 AM in response to lllaassby Nightsky-ansquf,The drive doesn't show up either when connected to another computer but the computer does see other external drives.
What could be done if the the drive did die?
If you could help it would be much appreciated.

Sep 27, 2015 7:16 AM in response to Nightsky-ansqufby lllaass,That would indicate a problem with the cable or with the electronics in the enclosure. Likely the disk inside is still good.

Oct 12, 2015 4:07 PM in response to Nightsky-ansqufby Laura and Nige,I am having the same issue, and appreciate your questions here. Ive recently updated to El Capitan.
I have another seagate drive and it is working fine.
Ive tried swapping cables etc an using new power sources. The disk starts up but just wont reflect on the Mac at all.

Oct 13, 2015 8:26 AM in response to DisneyWorldby erickonphoenix,This puzzling problem just started on one of our external drives last month. It's a low priority drive so I haven't looked closely at the problem until today. Seagate 3T disappeared from the mac server's finder but is still visible to everyone on the network. That's fine since they use it to store files that are ready for deletion anyway but I'm troubled why I can't see the drive on the server. I literally have to log on to the LAN remotely on my MBP to view it and move files around. Which is slow as cricket compared to working off the server.
• Disk Utility see's it and it's healthy
• Finder prefs show's external drives checked
• sidebar drive panel set to "show"
• I can mount and dismount the drive on disk utility
• I've rotated all USBs and same issue
• I've moved the 3T drive to other computers and it won't show up on the their finder either
My network configuration:
We work on a six Mac LAN connected to a Mac Mini server that serves up a 6T, 3T and another 3T
6T working is on Thunderbolt
3T is on Thunderbolt
3T is USB 3.0

Nov 6, 2015 10:26 AM in response to DisneyWorldby jyh10001,I am having this trouble too. Any advice or help please???
-
Nov 6, 2015 10:30 AM in response to jyh10001by lllaass,You are better off starting your own discussion. Include:
- Does it show in Profiler
OS X: About System Information and System Profiler - Apple Support
- Does it show in Disk Utility? If so what is listed about the drive?
- Can yo hear/feel the disk spinning?
- Do the lights on the enclosure light?
- Did it "work" before?
- Does it show on another computer?

Nov 6, 2015 10:32 AM in response to jyh10001by Allan Eckert,If you can't find the solution above in this thread then start your own thread because you in fact do not have the same problem then.
