Gradual Increase in latency in gaming

I'm gaming with World of Warcraft, and I have no connection problems until I'm playing online for about 30 seconds. At the 30 second mark, my latency (ping) increases until the maximum amount over the course of 3min. Is there a firewall I might have activated? Are there some settings I should look at and make sure they are checked or unchecked?
