I tried updating my Mac software but it did not update instead now it does not even start, what do I do? I dont have any restore disks??

I mean it was working perfectly fine but when I tried updateing the software it never turns on now... after a update restart. The apple logo does not show up when turning it on. Plz help need advice?
What Mac do you have, with what version of OS X? What are you trying to update?
It was an old version of apple software , I tried updating it to the recent version.
I don't remember exactly what version it was. It had not been updated for a long period of time. And now I have my adobe softwares on it and I'm afraid I will lose them. They are v expansive. It's mac laptop.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key.
That should launch the Startup Manager window. See if you can select your startup disk then click Restart.
if the startup disk is not available, it's likely the hard drive has failed.
Carolyn, not necessarily true. The directory can be bad and the Startup Manager won't be able to see the hard disk either. Also the system bootable files may have been damaged. This is why I always recommend users look at my data recovery FAQ before considering the drive has failed, if they don't have a backup:
