Messages does not show my sent comments

Messages does not show my sent comments

I was having trouble with Messages. Every time I received or sent a message, the message would appear for a moment and then disappear. I deleted my cloud data and re-signed-in hoping this would fix the issue. In a way, it did, but only partially. I now see all incoming messages, and they stay, but my outgoing messages disappear. My conversations look very one sided when I go back to review them.

What can I try next to fix this issue?

Server 3.02 (Mail Service)-OTHER, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Hi,

I would try two things.

In Messages > Preferences > Viewing change the background colour and then the Font (you can't change the Font without changing the background (balloon) colour.

In the Accounts part of the Preferences and in the iMessages account change the Start Conversations From to the opposite of what it is now (Either Apple ID or iPhone Number)

If you were not already make each device the same.

I tried both these suggestions and saw no change. Thank you for the suggestions. Anything else you might try?

Is there a way to delete and then reinstall Messages. I do not see it in the App Store, so I would think that it is only installed with the OS.

Hi,

Next I would use the Font Book to Validate (File Menu) the Fonts in use.

Also check Helvetica and Lucida Grande are also Active.

If you think the app needs to be reinstalled it is done as part of the whole OS.

I have validated the fonts in use as you have suggested, and I have not found the solution.

It almost seems as if I should re-install the operating system. Is this really the best alternative?

Hi,

In System Preferences > Users and Groups either create a "test" Mac User account or Enable the Guest one.

Test Messages by logging out of your normal Mac User account and into the one you have chosen to test with.

Set up the iMessages account.

Does it work properly here ?

If it does the issue is not with the App (or any of the support files).

If it does not work here then a Reinstall may be the only way to go.
