Q: Sending mail problem after setting up Keychain

I am using an imac, icloud email and Mavericks. Last night I set up Keychain and now I can receive email but when I try and send it, I get the spinning wheel and have to force quit. I'm also being asked a zillion times to put in my password (I think 'address something' is one of them). Do you think it might be a keychain setting issue?

 

New to macs so very simple replies would be much appreciated!

    BTW, is this a new Mail account or did you upgrade Mavericks over a previous install?

     

    You can run Keychain First Aid.

     

    Open Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities. Under Keychain Access in the Menu bar select Keychain First Aid.

     

    Run Repair Keychain.

    Hi Diane. The email problem seems to have resolved itself (through no action at all on my part) so I think maybe it was coincidence that it happened after I set up Keychain? Annoying but OK now.

     

    The only issue I'm having now is being repeatedly asked for 'calendaragent' 'addressbooksourcesync' wanting to use my login keychain password. If I do the first aid run would that sort that out do you think?

    You need to OK sync. Otherwise it will ask you every time the Calendar tries to sync. Running First Aid will not hurt, but will not solve the popup error.

     

    Send & Receive with email accounts is difficult to solve since it involves so many variables. Often as in your case it resolved on it's own. This indicates problems with your server.

     

    For many issues, simply restarting your computer will resolve the problem.

    Sorry Diane - not sure what you mean by 'OK sync'? Can you explain what I need to do?

    When you are asked to use the login keychain, select OK to use.

     

    It's also possible you have the keychain locked so it requires you keep selecting allow. Select to keep unlocked. More info: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13823

    I'm clicking OK but still periodically being asked for password. I'd just like to put the password in once  when I first wake the computer up. Is that possible or does everyone have to enter it 3 or 4 times for different reasons? (PS thank you Diane!)

    Options to fix:

    1) Possibly a corrupt plist file. Move to the desktop com.apple.keychainaccess.plist found in User/Library/preferences/. Log out/in to create a new plist file.

     

    How to enable the User’s Library folder

     

     

    2) Delete the entry in the keychain and add new


    Open Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities.

     

    • Find the account that is causing the problem.
    • Delete the item.**
    • Open Mail.
    • Go to Preferences > Accounts
    • Add the password for both receiving and sending.

     

     

    **Note: you should find two entries (sending & receiving) in the keychain for the account. It's also possible you'll find older entries as well. Delete all The Keychain does not delete an entry when you change the password. Delete All entries for the account.

     

    Some users have found starting over with a new keychain is helpful. You would need to know your passwords to add them back. See Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X
