how to run hardware test???

I have an early iMac with system 10.7.5 installed.

I need to do a hardware test.

I try to restart holding "D" as per instructions - starts normally. NO diagnostics.

I found an older disk from system 10.5.5 with hardware test on it, put in drive, restarted holding "D" - start fails.

I do not have the original disks for system 10.7.5, of course, update was over the internet.

As an aside, if, like me, you have a wireless keyboard, you can't do the diagnostics, since the keyboard isn't recognized until the startup is complete. I had to go out and buy a new wired keyboard. Don't know how others get around this.

The Apple wireless keyboard I used with an older iMac worked as expected for the hardware test & other startup key selections. Apple seem to say that it works if you wait for the startup sound.

Apple Wireless Keyboards will not recognize pressing and holding down startup keys during startup until the startup chime sound is heard. This is normal behavior. You may find it helpful to press and hold startup key combinations while the startup chime is playing. Two common startup key combinations are listed below.

If Option D doesn't work, either get replacement dvd's from Apple ($20 'ish, you'll need a serial number);

or download the AHT directly from Apple, as detailed at https://github.com/upekkha/AppleHardwareTest#
