Heating up fast and freezing?

My Macbook Pro, early 2012 I think, has worked fine until now. I try to run games or even the system preferences and it heats up very fast and freezes shortly after. I have cleaned the fans and tried other things, but nothing works. I used an app to force the fans on when the computer was hot, but it still stays hot and freezes. Any suggestions?
