Hi I want to reset my late 2012 imac to sell, I have erased the hard drive but when I try to reinstall the OS it ask me to sign in with my apple account, because my imac didn't come with the new OS X but if I sell it will the new owners know my apple account details?

You need to Install the OS X that your Mac Shipped with.
Yes I read the articles but what I don't understand is when I'm in disk utilities and click reinstall New OS there's only mavericks to choose from and it ask my to sign in to my apple account before I can install a fresh OS. Did I miss a step?

Reformat your hard drive and reinstall OS X. Follow the appropriate instructions:

You need to start in Internet Recovery - Command + Option + R; hold down those keys until you see a spinning globe. Once in Utilities, choose Disk Utility and wipe your drive and then reinstall the OS which should be Lion or Mountain Lion depending on which one yours came with. Internet Recovery will not associate the OS with an Apple ID.
