Help with slow running mac, common problem, new victim

Hi, I am having serious problems. MacBook Pro 17" was recently upgraded to 10.9, is PAINFULLY slow doing anything and everything. Not sure if the problem is caused by hardware or software. Below is the EtreCheck report. I would greatly appreciate any help.

For what it's worth, the disk doesn't seem to be unusually slow when I start in target mode.

Also, starting using Control-R and running disk utility, I get the following message:

"Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting"

"The partition map needs to be repaired because there's a problem with the EFI system partition's file system."

But could not repair because "Live file system repair is not supported". I also have access to Disk Warrior and TechTool, if those would be useful (tried to rebuild the directory with Disk Warrior but it did not help). Starting in Target mode and running disk utility from a second computer detected no problems on this hard drive!

Thank you

Back up all data to at least two different external storage devices, if you haven't already done so. Then boot into Internet Recovery by holding down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Try again to repair the partition map, and if you can't, repartition the drive, then install OS X and restore your data from a backup. If you ever have another problem with the drive, get the machine tested for a hardware fault.
