Pix SJ,

Why does it say "This solved my question" under your post if you still have the issue?

Same problem on ATV1. Accessing the Internet works. The Trailers option flickers off when selected but if I am quick enough I can access it. The trailers will stutter, pause and lag. No access to the iTunes Store at all for movies, tv shows, or podcast. Youtube works without a problem. I unpluged the AppleTv twice, logged out and signed back in, and restared it with the remote once. All is not well.

As of last night I had full acces to the iTunes Store. Since this morning I was getting an Itunes Store Not Available message, and after unplugging the AppleTv the iTunes Store access completly disappeared except for movie trailers.

I really hope that Apple has not killed the 1st gen ATV funtionality. Mine works flawlessly and has never given me a problem until today.

If anyone else has resolved this issue or knows the cause please reply.

Yep, I had the same problem over night. I tried restarting the AppleTV and running the diagnostics, but to no avail. I didn't try any updates or factory restore as mine has been jailbroken and I'm not sure how to restore the jailbreak to allow my ATV1 to read an external HDD from the USB port.

It's interesting that so many others have had the same issue - glad (in one sense) that I'm not the only one so I don't have to spend my Easter long weekend (Australia) researching how to jail break it!

Another problem I have is the remote seems sluggish even though the battery is only a month old. I tried a work-around for the missing radio stations by taking the suggestion of others to make a Playlist on my MacBook which only has the radio station I want. When I try to select "Shared Music" it selects "My Music" 90% of the time. The remote is very sluggish, making choosing "Shared Music" difficult. When I am able to selct it, my new playlist isn't there.

What is Apple doing to the ATV? First we lose the internet radio stations, now we lose iTunes????!!!!

Same issue here. Internet is working fine on Apple TV over wired or wireless eg I can use youtube... However when selecting TV or Movies Menus nothing appears. I can see Trailers listed under the movies menu, but when I move the menu selection to Trailers the menu shifts my selected button to the top of the menu. Also the movies that I synced from our computer keep moving and refreshing their images across the top preview bar making the whole system appear bugged

I really hope iTunes hasnt been changed to no longer service Gen 1 Apple TVs. It seems weve already had 720p HD movies and trailers removed from Apple TV store which made many Apple TV gen 1s only have standard def movies available. Im not happy with this because I have a HD projector.

To Apple: Gen 1 Apple TV was and is a great product with good video processing and storage capability, please bring it back with all functionlity that was promised with our $300 purchase. Without the original Apple TV purchasers buying Gen 1s would there even be a gen 2 or gen 3 or later unit? If not, please provide a way for us to upgrade without paying another 100+

Thanks

The problem is that my Apple TV will no longer connect to the iTunes on my computer. Shared movies will not let me access the content in my iTunes movie or tv shows libraries. This is content I own and have saved in iTunes including my home movies of my family on vacation.

I have restarted my MacPro Tower, tried with my iMac, deleted all the computers and remotes associated/connected to the Apple TV, unplugged everything from the Apple TV, and tried restarting my modem and my router all to no avail. The Apple TV sees my computers but stops there.

My Apple TV remote is sluggish as are the Apple Remote Apps (v 3.0.1) running on my iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touch.

Apple TV will not access the "shared movies" or "shared tv shows" options and seems to be restricted to the content that was saved on the Apple TV hard drive. I have about 10 GB of free space left. Apple TV will not access the iTunes store. I do not think this is strictly related to the iTunes store or a server issue because I cannot access my computers with the Apple TV, and to my recollection there has not been an iTunes update this week. App Store does not list an iTunes update in the last 30 days and the Apple TV has not been updated in many years.

I am running OS X 10.9.2, iTunes 11.1.5 and my Apple TV is running 3.0.2.

One odd thing I noticed is that something called "IR 3.1.2" showed up briefly in the "About" menu of my Apple TV in the area that usually reads Software Version. When I backed out to the main menu and went back to the About menu, the IR 3.1.2 was replaced by Software Version 3.0.2.

after running a factory restore...confirmed that my apple TV is running 3.01 ...I checked downloads (doesnt find any) and update software says -your apple TV is up to date-

I have windows PCs on our network and use the same itunes account on a laptop... but in any case Apple TV doesnt normally require a computer or mac to be switched on to reach itunes store for new purchases or trailers it just needs a internet connection and to be logged into an itunes account from the apple tv.

confirmed I also dont have any of these working:

movies or tv shows, or trailers listed under their menus; internet radio; nothing appearing in the top preview bar exept for my own content that I copied over and some youtube clips when I highlight the youtube menu

So if the software version isnt at fault my thoughts are: it could be iTunes itself or something in-between filtering out Gen 1s

Re: Unable to access Internet Radio and iTunes Store movies and music on Apple TV gen 1.

I am experiencing the same problems as others on this issue. Lost the radio access a couple of weeks ago and now no movies or music showing, other than my own. I've been away for a week with everything powered down so there have been no changes to my system so I believe the problem arises from changes made by Apple.

I can get around the radio problem by creating a smart playlist on iTunes of the Internet radio stations I want and syncing that to the Apple TV but no solution for the missing movies or store music. I bought a music track on the Apple TV a week ago with no problems and watched movie previews as well. Now I have no direct Apple TV access at all to the store. I have done factory restore of the Apple TV and software update, de-authorized and re-authorized my Mac with the iTunes on it and even rebuilt my iTunes library. Makes no difference. I can access YouTube fine and Internet radio works fine from the playlist but none of the original station listings show.

I agree with the previous comment that Apple is withdrawing access for gen 1 Apple TVs. Whether that is deliberate or not is debatable.

I have been at this all night and figured out the following:

1. If I plug the Apple TV directly to my MacPro tower via ethernet I am able to access the shared movies/shared tv shows again. Basically the Apple TV can communicate with the iTunes on my MacPro Tower like it used to but it has no internet access (no Youtube for example). I still cannot get access to the iTunes Store.

2. If I enable internet sharing (through systems preferences) from ethernet port 1 to share the internet to ethernet port 2 the shared movies/shared tv shows options stop working and the flickering of the images in the preview bar and sluggish remote control response resumes. Youtube works again but I am back to where I started. No iTunes Store access, no access to the content on my computer, and only access to the Apple TV hard drive.

Something is definatly wrong with whatever the Apple TV speaks with when it reaches out through the internet. Why the Apple TV stops speaking to the iTunes on my computer when it is connected to the internet is a bigger mystery. BTW: I tried connecting through WIFI and it didn't resolve the issue.

unable to see top movies search and other functions. I can see the photos and tv shows I have saved on apple tv but can not see the iTunes store.
