My brand new iPod has been on charge for 5 hours! Is this weird?

Hello all,

First post, slightly nervous. Bought a brand new shuffle yesterday. It's synced up fine with iTunes but it's been nearly 5 hours since I plugged it in. I sit and wait for the green light that never comes. Is this normal? Is a first-time charge supposed to take this long? Any help gratefully received!
