But when I wrote it in a terminal window, I have the message "sorry try again".

I reboot my mac but I have the same error again.

Frank,

I fail to see where sudo is not enabling root? After all, can't someone for a limited time after setting this up, run amuck with otherwise deleting system level files that normally can't be touched? Is it not easily as dangerous? When you man sudo, it tells you that you are running as superuser. Before when you enabled Personal Web Sharing under Lion or earlier, no administrative password was necessary.

There are differences between using sudo and enabling the root account especially from a system security standpoint. But that is a discussion for a different time.

Back when you could turn apache on or off from System Preferences you would still need to use sudo to set up the config files at a minimum and you would need to be a sys admin to access the preferences. So the only thing that has really changed is how apache gets turned on/off.

But we're getting off topic here. To the OP you do not need to enable the root account as long as your log in account is a System Administrator account you can do what you need to do using sudo.
