Incorrect, only the carrier that the phone is locked to is authorized to unlock it not Apple.

and Vodafone have no obligation to unlock the iPhone either .They may if it is a service they offer , it is in their "gift" not your right

We have a proper game with Vodafone. It is out of contract. We want to give the phone to my son on an orange contract (all Spanish carriers) Vodafone say connect to iTunes and in 1-15 days phone will be unlocked by Apple. All sounds very strange.

Another rep said pay 8€ we will send an email telling you what to do with the code in the email all via iTunes again. No email or code received. What a mess.

Well I'm not sure it's a gift. You should be able to change carrier etc after the contract has expired. You have more than paid for the phone and usage by then. All carriers seem to make it difficult and try to blame apple along the way. It's a disgrace

Vodafone subsidised the price of the iPhone when new ,this is the cost .You could have always paid full price at Apple and purchased an iPhone that was NOT locked to a carrier

Vodafone can do exactly as they like what ever you think ,an unpalateable fact of life

This is the way unlocking works

" gift " is a legal term in this scenario

You're being lied to. There is no code. The unlock process is summarized as follows:

    • You request an unlock from the carrier
    • Your carrier enters the request into their system
    • time passes...and passes...and passes
    • Eventually someone at the carrier approves the request
    • The approved request is sent to Apple
    • It goes into a queue at Apple
    • Eventually (usually 1-2 days) Apple updates their activation database to show the phone as unlocked
    • You then connect the phone to iTunes on your computer and click the "Restore iPhone" button in iTunes
    • If the request has been processed, when the Restore is complete you will get a message "Congratulations. Your iPhone is unlocked"
