Q: Software update

My Mac has software version OS X 10.8.5 and it wont update to the latest version.  Any suggestions?

    OS X 10.8.5 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. The latest version of OS X is 10.9.2 Mavericks,

    Software update won't offer you the update as your current OS is up-to-date. Mavericks 10.9.2 is available as a free download from the Mac App Store.

    If you decide to upgrade, ensure you have tested backup you can restore from if for any reason you want to (or need to) restore to Mountain Lion.

    Mavericks performs better with 4gb RAM and above - any less and it will likely be a slow performer.

    Also check that any apps your rely on in your workflow are Mavericks compatible. This list may help, although it isn't fully inclusive of all apps':
