do 2 cores equal Duo Processor?

In checking software requirements, software I'm considering getting says requires " Intel® Core 2 Duo processor". I'm confused as to whether my iMac meets this requirement. Under About This Mac - Model Identifier - iMac, 11, 2 "Processor Name: Intel Core i3, Number of Processors: 1, and Total Number of Cores: 2"? Using: OS Maverick 10.9.2

Software I'm interested in - Intego Antivirus & Security.

Tried Webroot and kept freezing & I kept having to force quit. It also really slowed my start up. So I just uninstalled Webroot.

Thanks. Charlotte

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), 3.2 GHz, Intel Core i3

Avoid that, all it will do is cause problems just as WebRoot did.

The Mac has no need for any of that kind of software.

The Intel Core I3 is newer then the Intel Core 2 Duo.

"Core 2 Duo" is a lesser processor than your Core i3. You should be fine...

BUT!

Please don't install an anti-virus program. You have a Mac, not a Windows comptuer and AV stuff written for Win and converted to Mac (to get money from switchers who used Win for years) usually causes many Mac issues. Only if you want to be disappointed in your Mac's performance should you install something like that.
