Out of Memory with red screen FCP 7

My project is big. I have over 200 sequences. Using HD 1920 x 1080, Apple ProRes

When I work one or two sequences, many time, it crashed many times. Even this computer has 16 GB memory. I have other computer same one but with 8 GB. It did not crashed at all.

I even had memory test by Rember. It showed the memory all good.

Why is that FCP 7 crashed so many times even I closed all apps and only one sequence open. Length of sequence might be up to 4 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), FCP 7.0.2

do you have any image files that are cmyk or are larger than 4000x4000 pixels. Both things will cause crashes.

You can open the image files in preview and hit command-i and it will give you this info.

You should also keep your fcp project smaller than 100 mbs. You can divide projects into multiple projects.

My point other computer with 8 GB memory, it work fine.... no crashes.

How come?

I use this project over 2 years with many sequences no problem until maybe two - three months ago.

how large is your project? As I said, projects over 100 mb are problematic. Does your other computer run the same OS, etc.?

Also, RAM can be defective and It can be very difficult to diagnose this. The sure proof way is to swap out the ram, chip by chip to see if the problem goes away.

I check and the project is 307 MB. I noticed the mb increase since Jan 2014. Before that it was about 110 mb. So that could be that.

Other computer, yes, same OS. I bought two computers same day. The problem I use, it is my main use more than other one.

Because Final Cut Pro 7 is a 32 bit program, it can not not use more than 4GB of RAM. It doesn't matter if you have 1TB of RAM, 4GB is all it can access.
