Q: Possible to install old ram cards?

In our home there were 2 iMacs where the memory cards can be removed from the bottom. My computer went in for repair as the screen went white with purple lines. They said for me to get a new computer.This was not an Apple store as there isn't one here. Hmmm, unsure if the diagnosis was right.. Anyway, can I take out the old 2 ram cards from my old Imac computer and put them into the other one that is the same (there are slots available). Will adding the cards from my past computer as it has stuff on them muck up the computer they go in to?

Assuming the specifications for each iMac call for the same RAM then yes, if you are not sure then look for the system specification or you can use a site like Crucial or OWC (www.macsales) to determine the type of RAM each machine uses.

So it won't muck up what is on the existing computer as it is added?

It will, if the RAM specifications are different.

What speed is the RAM from the older iMac and what model is your newer iMac...?
