The sound on my iPhone 4s isn't working because airplay is hooked up to "Dock Connector"

I can't hear my text tone but I can hear my ringtone. Snapchat videos, vines and my music have no sound. My airplay will connect to my apple TV but it does not give me an option for my iPhone only "Apple TV" and "Dock Connector" and it's connected to dock connector but I have no idea what that is or where it came from. I reset my phone and I'm having the same problem.
