Trying to download games for my son. Everything says not compatable. what do I do?

There are likely very few apps/games that are still compatible with that old of an ipod.
Look for apps/games that say they are compatible with your ipods ios version, likely 3.1.3
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)

You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
I thank you for this information. I have not yet tried the links that were attatched but as soon as I do I will respond with how it worked for me. I am not real familiar with this apple community and how it works because I lost my internet about a year ago and prior to that I had no need for this particular network. My children (of course) know a bit more than me about all of this but I am learning and I am eager to know how to manipulate my way through all of this with the iphone and ipod stuff since my son is not old enough to do it all alone and his 12 year old sister is helpful, she is most often helpful under duress (LOL). I have the original ipod touch 8GB and am trying to download some of the free available games for my son. How can I get some games to download or what type of games (free) should I look for to be able to have games on here for him?
