I want to add just a song or two. Then I get a message at the top of itunes that says "Updating Files on ipod" and under that I have a message that says "Preparing to update." This process, just to add a song, takes over 30 minutes. I cannot believe that it's because of the new connection, but I NEVER had these problems with any of my "old" ipods.
I have turned off genius and itunes match.
iPod touch, Windows 8, itunes version 11.1.5.5
Does it complete?
Note that:
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.
You may be having the problem because it is recovering from turn Match off.
Match off was turned off last week. How long should it take to recover from turning match off?
And actually, this time it did not complete, which hasn't happened before. I left it last night connected and this morning the song I tried to add is "greyed out" with dotted circle to the far left. There is still 12.91GB free space left on the ipod, so there's plenty of room left!
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
I had the same problem and I came to this forum to find answers. Unfortunately I didn't find any. Here is what i did to bypass Apple's 8ULL$H!T system (devices look great but their system is $H!T) Google n Microsoft are so easy to use. Just delete the files you were trying to send to Iphone when you see the preparing to update error. Unplug your phone from computer, Re- attach through usb and try transferring one song at a time. some might still not go in so just delete them from the queue and try again. I sent 24 songs from computer to Iphone doing this 😟
